The Texas unemployment rate falls to 6.8 percent in September

The Texas unemployment rate fell to 6.8 percent in September from 7.1 percent as statewide employment hit a record level according to the Texas Workforce Commission.

Statewide employment reached a record high of more than 11.8 million people last month and unemployment (802,052 people) was at the lowest level since March 2009, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Both figures are not adjusted for seasonal variations.

Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is well below the national rate of 7.8 percent for September.

Texas appears to be following a national trend: In September, 41 states and Washington, D.C., posted unemployment rate decreases in September from the previous month. In addition, 35 states and Washington, D.C., added jobs last month.
